Law Secures Historic Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Championship Win

David Law became the first golfer in history to win the Scottish Boys Championship and Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Championship in the same year following a dramatic play-off victory over Paul O’Hara in the final at Royal Troon.

The 18-year-old from Hazlehead Golf Club, who had clinched the national junior crown at Royal Aberdeen in April, showed nerve beyond his years to defeat three-time finalist O’Hara at the 38th hole following one of the best finals in the 87-year history of the Championship.

In front of the large Ayrshire galleries, Law and O’Hara played superb golf in a strong wind on the Troon links as the match ebbed and flowed throughout a thrilling encounter. O’Hara sank a 45-foot putt on the penultimate hole to stay in the match, whilst Law’s effort on the final green stopped agonisingly on the lip of the hole to take the match to extra holes.

A superb up and down from young Aberdonian at the 37th hole kept the game alive and after O’Hara to par the second, Law’s short putt gave him the victory, securing a place in next summer’s Barclays Scottish Open in the process.

Scotland’s leading 256 amateur golfers contested the championship over one of the world’s finest links, featuring a great mixture of youth and experience, with some dramatic matches throughout the six days which dominated the golfing headlines in Scotland’s newspapers.

Ian Thomson, Managing Director of Allied Surveyors Scotland, said:

“We are once again very proud to be associated with Scotland’s flagship amateur golf event in what is our fifth year of sponsorship with the Scottish Golf Union. Royal Troon proved to be wonderful hosts and the players, particularly David and Paul, demonstrated the high calibre of golf we have here in Scotland.”

“Our investment in the amateur game has proved to be hugely beneficial to the development of talent among Scotland’s young golfers, and its great to see some of the championship’s previous competitors – such as Richie Ramsay and Callum Macaulay - now enjoying success on the European Tour.”
